Ashbel W. Barto

Staff Sergenat Ashbel Barto was employed at Republic Aircraft Corp. before entering the Army in 1943. He attended the Army Mechanics School at Chanure Field, IL. Ashbel was stationed in the South Pacific area with the Air Transport Command in late 1943, assisting in the ground crew. By late 1944, he was stationed in Hawaii. After serving 18 months in the Pacific Theater, Ashbel returned to the US to complete a B-29 course at Seattle, WA. Prior to his discharge from Fort Dix in January, 1946 he completed another tour in the Pacific area as well as being stationed at Wilmington, DE.
