De Witt Cohen served in the 213th Squadron, Mineola, NY. The ship that he was on to go overseas was torpedoed off the coast of Ireland. He was taken off the sinking ship and landed at an Irish port. De Witt was eventually sent to the front and served in the Toul Sector, St. Mihiel Drive, the Argonne.
