George Doyle enlisted in the U.S. Ambulance Service. He served on the Champagne front, France where he was attached to the 72nd French Division before being transferred to the 4th French Army, 13th Division. He saw service through four major operations on the Champagne front with the French Army, including Aisne- marne, Champagne, Marne- Argonne, and the Last Battle of Aisne. George was decorated by the French with the Croix de Guerre.
