Gunners Mate Third Class John Brown enlisted in the USN prior to completing high school. Following boot training at Sampson, NY, John served as a pointer on an anti-aircraft machine gun in the Pacific area aboard the USS Watts, one of the two 100-ton destroyers. His boat became part of Admiral Halsey's Carrier Task Force in the waters off the Japanese homeland. John was discharged in April, 1946 at Lido Beach, NY.
