Theresa was awarded a US Navy Scholarship for Medical School. She started active reserve service in 1989 upon graduation from Medical School, she was stationed at the Naval Hospital in Portsmouth Virginia, Naval Hospital Okinawa Japan and Naval Hospital Twentynine Palms California. She completed her service with the rank of LCDR in 1997.
